SUSTAINABILITY
So we can keep doing this forever

Sustainability
The Town explores what makes a thriving village and sustainability is the key part of this. The goal is to get to as close to zero waste as possible, while co-creating an environment that naturally stimulates the crowd. We truly respect the beautiful land with its fresh waterways and surrounding nature, as well as it’s traditional owners. We ask all Town Residents to embody his ethos and create an awesome mirror for our everyday lives and how we live. Let’s all set the best example for each other.
The whole town of Licola is now running 95 percent of it’s energy on Solar, making it the first off grid Town in Victoria. We aim to cover our remaining power requirements off Bio-Diesel generators.
Keeping yourself sustained
We provide a really rich environment that itself is truly stimulating and fulfilling. We aim for everyone to have a creative uplifting weekend that leaves your cup full and feeling connected and inspired.
We encourage healthy choices and good sleep and food over the weekend. If you can enjoy what we do naturally then we believe then we have created the perfect space that doesn’t require enhancing.
Creativity over consumption is another key ethos of The Town. There have also studies that suggest that connection can be an antidote to addiction. This is one of the reasons why fostering a strong community is so important to us. The Town also has no mobile reception and also allows us to escape our reliance on technology, and connect in a more human way.
We recommend having a weekend off, or vaping, but If you do smoke over the weekend, pretty please always use film canisters and the provided butt disposals and don’t smoke on the dance-floor or around children.

Zero Waste
All our food and drink stalls use reusable crockery and cutlery, with volunteers washing over the weekend. There is also the option to purchase reusable cups, and wash stations will be provided. We will also be setting up a worm farm this year for food waste.
We ask you to please avoid bringing disposable rubbish and plastics. Using Tupperware and smart storage of food, a reusable bottle, and no plastic or glass are such a huge help . These choices also help us set greats habits for everyday life.
Please do not bring excessive alcohol (no kegs, multiple slabs or bottles please). We do not run a bar as we only want people drinking socially and not at all to excess, and choose this ethos over profits.
Also please only use bio-glitter please if you want to get sparkly and avoid things like fake feathers in costumes that turn into rubbish. Be mindful and let’s keep the beautiful Town spotless all weekend ?
Finally, please take home any waste you accumulate. Last year, everyone did this and we only processed Four 3-meter cubic skips of rubbish for the entire festival. Lets aim for even closer to zero waste this year, it truly is possible.
Sustainable Transport
To avoid putting pressure on the site we kindly ask for your help with carpooling. For sustainability and to fit on site, our aim is for 3 people per car. Please also respect the important rule of no busses/caravans on site (at the caravan park is okay). We have a certain amount of trailer and early access passes for theme camps.
We ask tents are also kept to a humble size (get cosy with your buddies). This helps us spread throughout the site, making sure everyone is comfortable and feels a sense of community and sharing. In society we are taught to value privacy and large individual spaces, but we are really trying to think more community minded at The Town.
We encourage embracing this less is more approach and focusing on communal elements like chill spaces, mailboxes, decor, and things to theme your campsite. When buying tickets there is an option to select if you will be theming, so we can see how we can assist with making this easier for you if you plan to bring more elaborate items.

Thank you for your sustainable input
This is a collective effort and we are so grateful to have you beautiful people on board our experiment! Lets set the standard for showing how we can live our lives sustainably, both at and away from parties. ♥
